Default Picking up a NS42ce after church today!

Cant wait to get it. I had a NS24e a while back and then sold it because I thought I had a deal worked out for a NS74ce but that deal fell through and I have been GASing for a NS ever since. I will post pics later.....

Congrats on the NS42ce. Can't wait to see the pics. Are you planning on playing it in church?

What made you choose NS42 rather than the 24 or 74?

Congratulations. I've been following your nylon pursuits. I hope you enjoy the 42 even more so than your 24. In the Taylor NS line, I prefer the 12 fret GC body size. I find the acoustic tone to be sweeter and richer offering slightly more to the tone pallet. Im looking foward to your review as I have not had any personal experience with ovankol.

Is this model still being made? I don't see a 42 on Taylor's website. Is it ovangkol like the other 400 series?

Yes. The 42 and 44 have sitka spruce tops with Ovankol back and sides. All solid wood construction. Im not certain if they are discontinued or not.

If your interested in an ovamkol NS, Elderly Instruments has a used 2011 custom listed their used section. It is a 12 fret gc size with cutaway and a cedar top with abalone rosette. Looks nice too.

Cool, thanks Lady Toni. I'm pretty set with my JMSM for now, but didn't know that a 400 series was an option for Taylor nylons.

Oh yes. I had forgotten about that. I guess you are pretty set. I enjoy the nylon string guitar getting its due appreciation. Im looking foward to seeing it continue to expand beyond classical and latin music styles.

^^^ Agreed! The nylon sound is special and cannot be duplicated any other way.

To answer a few questions first....

- Yes, I plan to use it in church. I had a NS24e a while back and used it in church and it added a sweet "depth" to the music that I wanted to have back.
- I ended up with the NS42ce instead of the 24 or 74 because I found a fair deal on one locally so I snatched it up.
- I do not think that this model is made anymore for some reason.

Now, first off this is the first NSx2 sized Taylor I have played and now I understand why everyone likes them better than the NSx4 models. They do have a certain something about them in the tone. I used to own the NS24e as I said already above and this NS42ce is hands down my favorite tone wise. The guy I bought it from also had a Cervantes Crossover 1, and I got to sit and play them side by side and honestly I prefered the tone of the Taylor. I have heard alot of people say Acoustically the Taylors are lacking but I am not a "Classical player" so my tastes are probably a bit different. I took some pics below (cheap camera, sorry) I wish I could capture in these pics that amount of figure there is in this Ovangkol but it is stunning. I have owned several Ovangkol guitars in the past and this is the most figured one I have had. The pics do it absolutely no justice.

Again, congratulations. Nice figure in the woods is definitely an added bonus. Im glad you found a perfect match in your new guitar.

Beautiful guitar! Enjoy the mellow nylon sound. I played my JMSM at church tonight on one song along with another player on a steel string. It was a great mix of tones.

That is exactley what we will have is one steel and one Nylon. It gives the sound an added depth that I really like.
