Perhaps you can call MF and ask them to weigh in. I would see if they will cover the cost of a new nut being made locally. Guild may send you a replacement, but it is likely glued in place. Otherwise, the new Guild products are fairly consistent based on my recent test driving. I'd be surprised if a replacement was a step down.

Nice find. It's nice to have a Guild 12 string. I have a Seagull strung with Elixir lights as the seldom player. I keep it in Eb.
I still wish it had my RIC string design. With the heavier string first of the pairing. Maybe you can try a new nut with the reverse string lay? I find that better for Travis rhythms and melodic spots. The little string first I find I primarily strum rhythms with it. Possibly due to all my electric years of Rickenbacker? |

Since you are new to 12 string guitars, I very highly recommend tuning down a full step to make the playing experience more pleasant.
By the way, most of my guitars have required some work on the nut slots for optimal set up and playing comfort. So even if you have to spend a little for a new nut, you might have spent a similar amount to get the nut worked on as part of a set up. I've always wanted to hear the D1212. The videos online make it sound very appealing. The mahogany tames the inherent 12 string jangle.

Major congrats on the Guild 12 acquisition! It's a beauty!
That's for sure! I've also got a Guild maple b&s jumbo 12 - out of Corona - a JF30-12. It's got two truss rods. A real cannon. Sound is beyond great. One of the best 12-strings on the planet!

Quick update, on the first night I had this guitar I thought the sound of a 12 string guitar just wasn't for me. After having logged some hours on it now, I am intoxicated with it. This will certainly give me more tonal options.

Man, a 12 string change is a workout. I’ve got to take a break in the middle.

I adopted the practice of bringing it up to tune last on a string change. By tuning the other 11 strings first the neck seems to become more stabilized. Has worked for me - haven't broken a new octave G since adopting this method.
