Default Why Are We Men Being Invited To Baby/Wedding Showers?

I mean COME ON! What the heck is with this that all of the sudden we have to start attending these things or there is something wrong with us? In the past few years it seems like its become the norm that the husband is now being invited along with the wife to these boring deals. I prefer the good old days were the women just ignore us and don’t even bother asking us to go with them. I think I would rather be water boarded than have to attend another one of these torture sessions. I think I set a new worlds record for checking my watch at the last one I was “invited” to. A man can only take so much of this abuse. Oh and don’t you just love it when they start in with the games? Somebody shoot me.

Uhm, maybe ... uh ... equality?

Nah! No way! Couldn't be.

That said, don't want to go? Just say no.

Women can say no.
So can men.
Tell em you gotta do your hair or nails.

You need to learn how to respectfully decline .
If that doesn't work , make yourself so obnoxious at the next one that you will never be asked again . Farting and belching will do just fine . Cursing won't be necessary .
Either way , there will be some pain , but it just may be worth it in the end .
Good luck .
Oh yeah , peeing on the toilet seat is a sure winner .

I guess they just don’t appreciate your authentic self, Wadcutter.

Bummer...

Did you remember to ask if there is free light beer when you RSVP’d?

Have you never heard a man, or the woman, say "We are pregnant."?

As Dylan prophesied, "For the times, they are a changing".

I’m 66 and I just went to my first one. I kept asking my wife “Are you sure?” After what seemed like an interminable stretch of time, they started opening every present and doing the OOOOO thing. There was a pub across the street and I slipped out the back door for a “break”. I wasn’t there 5 minutes and I got a text from my son saying “where are you?” He joined me for refreshments.

Don't know. I was invited to one of my wife's bridal showers back in 1980. Of course, I was stranded in her hometown seven hundred miles from my home with no car and nothing to do, so the nice hostess invited me. It was very feminine affair and I was but a fly on the wall.

Unsurprisingly, they didn't invite me to her trousseau shower thrown by a lady from her church but I very much got to enjoy the gifts from that one later.

These phenomena have crossed the pond relatively recently. My wife has been to few, I think they're still a mainly female event.

If guys over there are going to them, it's only a matter of time before were expected to go over here. So thanks for the heads up.

From what I understand, the starting point for these events is handing over substantial sums of cash to various retailers.

Why? They want more gifts.

That's weird, around here, the husband always goes.

Or do you mean, the husband of guests, not the person being "showered?"

Hey Wad, your knuckles are dragging!
I went to a few of these years ago when my friends and I were starting families. It wasn't bad. All the men hung out in another room and kind of had our own party...just like most any other party. Free food and alcohol...can't be too bad.

Just say "no, thank you". I don't see the problem.

I was recently invited to a friend's baby shower and attended. Quite a few men were present and we all had a good time. I don't see a problem with it.
