I never completely trusted my Hercules triple stand so I use gaffers tape to hold the main shaft in place. Since it never leaves my studio, I never need to adjust it. I use a Hercules double stand at gigs and band practice that I’ve just decided to trust for those few hours a month it gets used. After hearing about this clamp failure, I’ll tape it too.

Not for me they didn't. I had a three guitar stand by Hercules, and one og the "sprung" clasps failed quickly. I contacted them, they ignored me.
No more Hercules stuff for me.

On a product of defective design.
The 'fixed' one will work ... till it disintegrates and drops your guitar. No thanks. I like my guitars. There are competing guitar stands that don't disintegrate. Cases are even safer. |

Anything mechanical has the possibility of failure.

You can’t beat a guitar rack. Nothing to break and your guitars sit comfortably. Even stating that I added a padded bar to lock the guitars in place.

sounds like an exceedingly rare event - sort of like a terrible train crash, but train travel is still safe.
I never put my guitars dangerously in their cases. The humidity cannot be properly monitored without opening the case (and exchanging all the air so you get a lousy reading). Some of the worse damage I ever incurred was case bites. Stepped on cases are a real danger. And removing the strap loosens the leather just begging for major damage when it lets loose. No, hang them high out of the way, in a controlled room, where they belong. Much safer. I never endanger my guitars in a case. And as an added benefit they can all be played for 10 seconds on and off all day long. And the visual artistry is always on display. Sorry about your terrible misfortune, but just say "no" to cases. (this commentary brought to you by the contrarians just to prove that absolute opinions are an oxymoron)

Wow, crashing on a hardwood floor? Now that's a noise that nightmares are made of!
Thanks for the heads up, I had not heard of this issue. I have two Hercules single stands that work great but I'll have to watch out for this handle issue. Was the grip part of the handle visibly disintegrating or was it the internal locking mechanism? |

Not a fan except to take pictures or hold an electric guitar on stage.
In fact a have 3 sided (carousel type) one still unopened I will sell for 50$ if anyone wants it? My 3 guitar gigging days seem to be over. I look at lifting the 20lb acoustic guitar in my Ameritage cases as exercise so that is why I rarely leave an acoustic out in the air. If only your beautiful Martin could have been a telecaster. That clamor from upstairs must have been adrenaline spike. I hope you can buff out the finish. Thanks for the plastic degradation warning. |
