Haven't tried this Recording King model, but it has also peeked my curiosity as I'm huge Ryan Adams fan. When I found out it was X braced with laminate back and sides my interest dropped... Would still love to hear it, through.

It's only going for appearance, that's for sure, but RK makes awesome inexpensive guitars and it will likely play and sound pretty good for a $300 guitar.

He's a pretty funny and self deprecating guy, but there is certainly a lot of truth to that.

Here's a cool video of Dan Erlewine keeping Ryan's "Bucks" in playing shape.

I agree with you. I was disappointed to see the xbrace as well.

He was probably joking. Well, not about them going out of tune all the time. I'm sure that was true. Strew Mac did a video showcasing repair work they did on one of his guitars.... They pair very well to his voice.

Last year he actually sent those to Dan Earlwine and they did a piece for Steward Macdonald how Dan brought those Buck Ownen's models back to life.

I've been thinking about getting a lower-price / knockabout guitar, knowing that it would likely come with laminated back/sides - I don't like taking the Taylors out in the elements....I figured - it's $300, solid top, and fairly unique. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Will let you know how it sounds.

If you wanted an RK Bakersfield, Guitar Center has a sale - $242.99 with free shipping.

Grab a Gator OM case from Amazon for $80, and you're all set.

RK (and Eastman) guitars are a great bang for the buck.

I have a RK RO227 that would be a OM-41 Special if it was a Martin.

$750 new otd back in 2011. The case was $75 extra. Wonderful build quality and beautiful woods.

I grabbed one of the RK Bakersfield models to have a knock-around guitar, and the Buck-Owens vibe was a plus. Earlier this year, I got an Eastman E40-OM. Great guitar, and it's my go-to fingerstyle guitar over my Taylor 514ce.

I played one of these yesterday at GC and it was just ok.

Then I played one of the RK parlors, and it was really good, I think it weighed like 3 lbs.
