So sorry to hear this. I've had dog (and cat) family members all my life. One of my favorite quotes (and I don't know who to attribute it to) is "Try to be the person your dog thinks you are." I know my dogs have helped me be a kinder, more patient person. They all leave a hole in our lives when they're gone.

So sorry for your loss.
Unless you have been close to your furfriends you just can't imagine the hurt.

I can't imagine what you are going through. Actually, I can imagine, which makes it that much more heartbreaking.

The only thing we can hope to do is provide a world of love to our pets. That you did, and you should take solace in that.

Hang in there.

Thank you. We’re wading through. My oldest boy dog (pictured with her) has been sitting in the doorway looking into the kitchen where she was. Sad. He misses her too. We’re glad that she’s free to run and play.

Cool story...once I’d finished burying her I happened to stand in the driveway and look up. It was a beautiful day here (72..little humidity, nice cool breeze).

There was ONE lone bird just gliding high in the sky right above our house. It wasn't even flying. Literally just gliding and soaring in a circle right above me. There were no other bird anywhere. It did that for about 3-4 minutes. Then slowly moved out of sight.

It brought peace to me knowing she was free...not sick, not blind, and able to move effortlessly in Heaven.

Some may find that strange. I understand. But I took solace in it.

I appreciate your encouragement and kind words and encourage that each of you have provided. It truly means a lot.

The House Dog's Grave
(Haig, an English Bulldog)

I've changed my ways a little; I cannot now
Run with you in the evenings along the shore,
Except in a kind of dream; and you, if you dream a moment,
You see me there.

So leave awhile the paw-marks on the front door
Where I used to scratch to go out or in,
And you'd soon open; leave on the kitchen floor
The marks of my drinking-pan.

I cannot lie by your fire as I used to do
On the warm stone,
Nor at the foot of your bed; no, all the nights through
I lie alone.

But your kind thought has laid me less than six feet
Outside your window where firelight so often plays,
And where you sit to read— and I fear often grieving for me—
Every night your lamplight lies on my place.

You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
To think of you ever dying.
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope that when you are lying

Under the ground like me your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine.
No, dears, that's too much hope: you are not so well cared for
As I have been.

And never have known the passionate undivided
Fidelities that I knew.
Your minds are perhaps too active, too many-sided...
But to me you were true.

You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

Sincere thanks to all. Larry that was beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes. I miss her deeply. And, as has been mentioned, have found solace in my remaining furry friends, as well as my family.

I visit her grave often. Talking to a mere shell buried beneath the dirt that we were drawn from, knowing she’s not there. Yet, it brings an odd comfort. This is truly a difficult thing. I’d wish it on no one. I feel so deeply compassionate for those who’ve been through, or are I’m the midst of, this. And, I can’t fathom how anyone would go on after losing a child. The sadness couldn’t be imagined.

While I do feel good knowing that her suffering has ended, it’s us who remain that continue to feel the suffering and sorrow. This too shall pass...or at least get a bit easier I’d hope. But I’m sure I’ll never “get over” her passing.

It’s a great reminder that our lives are short. Like a mist or a vapor that is here today and gone tomorrow. It’s been a good reminder to appreciate every moment that we have with our loved ones. Whether family or furry friends.

Love much. Be kind. Look for opportunities to encourage others. And enjoy the journey... for the destination will be here before we realize it.

Thank you again to all who I consider my AGF family. Your words and counsel have been a blessing and an encouragement.
