Oh no, Tom ... another ordering mistake? It appears that they built the electric guitar cabinet model. Did you need to renegotiate for the acoustic model?

Can you tell us a little more about the humidity control system?

Thanks

John

I would be glad to give a review....there was a slight snag in the delivery. Fed Ex delivered a week late...not blaming anyone or anything, but that is what happened. I was in Tx waiting for it to be delivered, but since it was a week late, it is sitting there in the garage all boxed waiting for me. I have been so busy up north working that I have not been down there since to unbox and set it up.

The manufacturer was so nice, he said he would fly down with a helper to do it mid-March which I thought was way above and beyond, but alas it never happened. So I have not even seen it yet in person.

I will update the thread when I get it up and let you know how the humidity system works.

Thanks

So I finally was able to take a little break from work now that April 17th has come and gone and get to Texas and set up my new cabinet. It has been boxed in the garage since the middle of Feb. and driving me crazy.

Well the shipping was amazing, it took me 45 minutes to un-build the crate that it was in. The crate was actually built for the cabinet. It came in two crates, the bottom unit with the drawers and humidifying system and then the top. Very heavy, solid wood, but with some dolly help, some physics and maybe a miracle, I got it into the house and set up.

It is a thing of beauty for sure. I have it set up and everything running, so far so good. I know a lot of you are interested in the humidity aspect. There is a large water reservoir in the center drawer, a humidity sensor in the cabinet, and a low water warning for the reservoir. It comes pre-set from the company to maintain the humidity between 45 and 55%, but you can set that as you wish. As an example, if a room is 20% humidity, the cabinet will cycle automatically for roughly 5 minutes twice an hour to maintain in the humidity range mentioned above. The cedar lining is not only pretty, but it soaks up moisture well and helps maintain the environment in the cabinet. It smells great too.

Here are some pictures. I don't have any of my really good guitars down here yet, but there is an Emerald (which is there for looks as it requires no humidification), an Eastman E8, a Luna Uke, and a Breedlove dread, just so you can tell the sizes.

I have hangers for 10 guitars which you can adjust to have you guitars hang perpendicular or parallel with the front of the cabinet or anywhere in between.

Here are some pictures:

Center drawer with humidifier in place:

The cabinet maker even went out and found some beautiful walnut burl and flitch matched it for the outside drawers. He also stained it to go well with the floors once I had sent him a picture of the flooring:

That’s very nice Tom. Im guessing it depends on the indoor conditions, but roughly how long will the cabinet maintain 45%-55%RH on one tankful of water. I’m wondering how often you have to top it off.

Yes, according to the paperwork that came with it, depending on the season, anywhere as often as once a month to once every three months. You start with 1 3/4 gallon of water and then when the alarm goes off you add 1 gallon. It is a 3 gallon tank, but I believe they want air space for circulation of air through the humidified tank and that air is pumped via fans into the cabinet where it circulates through.

I did not get this, but if you live in a real humid area, you can add de-humidification also.

Thanks, it is peace of mind. You start to think how much money you have invested in guitars and for the price of one that is ruined because of a humidity crack, you can have this safety net, I thought it was a good investment.

Looks fantastic Tom, congratulations!

One question, with the relative infrequency required to refill the water, is there a risk of getting stagnant water? Do you need to treat the water?

Hmmm, don't know for sure, nothing is mentioned about that in the instructions. You use distilled water of course. You only add a gallon when the alarm sounds, maybe that is another reason for that?
