Default 52 weeks...52 arrangements...52 improvisations

So my New Year's resolution is the Song of the Week challenge...going to do mine my way, so all instrumental, all tunes I've never arranged for solo guitar...I'll play the tune, improvise on the form...and I'll record these a bunch of different ways, some video, some audio.

So I started already last week with "You'd be So Nice to Come Home to." Since I'm going to be doing mostly jazz, I know the interest here might not be huge, but I figure the more places I reveal I'm doing this, the better chance I'll feel enough pressure to actually do it...

So here's #1...#2 to follow soon, as I'm already working on it...

That sounds like a really cool way to do the sotw challenge. And an awesome start (I agree with Ryder about needing 52 weeks to learn something like that).

I don't think I'll have any meaningful commentary to contribute as I know nothing about this style of music, but I enjoyed following Kyle and Steve in their SOTW journeys so I'll follow, watch, and check-in as much as I can to help you along in yours. If anything, it'll be fun to watch your fingers fly all over the fretboard.

Looking forward to the next one. Good luck and keep them coming.

Ditto! Jeff, your skill level and music are so far beyond me I usually can't offer anything more than how impressive it is but, I'll definitely have a listen each week.

Hi Jeff,

I'm glad someone decided to take up the SOTW challenge. Yoiu'll find it a worthwhile endeavour. I don't know a darned thing about jazz, but maybe I'll learn a thing or two. Looking forward to following your journey.

Steve

Thanks all!

You'll get to hear plenty of Nolan's vocalese this year...and some actual words soon.

I love it Jeff. That is one of my favorite tunes. I like the way you work in the melody and chords so naturally and your improv section really swings. It seems that you have a serious in - house critic! You may have motivated me to try to make my own arrangement if "so nice". Looking forward to your future posts.

Excellent, Jeff! It's always a pleasure to listen to you play. The baby was a nice addition, too . Your finger work post 2:00 minutes was particularly impressive. If this is just week one, week 52 will be amazing!

Very nice, Jeff! Glad to see another member here taking up the SOTW challenge. Hopefully you'll find it as enjoyable as I did. I like your spin on it with the instrumental arrangements/improvisations. Looking forward to the rest!

Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
