Default New Song: Something Doesn't Belong Here

I've already posted this on the jazz guitar forum, but it'd be interesting to hear what folks think here as well...

Looking for feedback...

Here's the tune, played straight up:

And as a Bossa

And forgive the creepy staring into the camera at the end of the second video...I forgot to hit "stop" as I closed out the backing track... So feel free to have a staring contest with me.

Hey Jeff IMO your song works great both ways. I love the cool 3:00am jazz club feel of the straight ahead chord melody version. And I loved the Steely Dan (ish) single note runs of the bossa version. It's a coin flip for me - both are Excellent!

The Bossa version is really very nice, more coherent as well and reflects the right mood.

Same thinking here. I enjoyed the Bossa version quite a bit.

Thanks gents, I'm gonna go with bossa...now the question is, does it need a B section...

The straight up is more interesting to me due to the chord colorations. The recording is rather dry and could
use a little reverb to fill out the sound. Mix in a few scale runs and add part B and you are good to go.

Thanks for listening Rick.

Yeah, these recordings are nothing special--just an audio diary--not intended to be a finished product by a longshot.

Amazing skill, Jeff. Both renditions are way over my pay grade to critique, but I enjoyed listening to both.

it might work to start it off swung and then switch to bossa, then close with a short swung section as well. i think some chord work during the bossa section would really give some rhythmic propulsion.
