So you're suggesting a preamp before the Weir pedal? Could be done, tho I usually like to avoid cascading preamps. I guess that's no different than having an active system inside the guitar tho. You'd need a TRS->XLR adaptor for the Weir pedal input. There's no XLR on it, in or out, which is also an interesting choice. Seems this thing is expected to go in a line of pedals, it doesn't act as a DI by itself.

Doug,

The K&K product I'm speaking about simply converts 3-wire 48v phantom power to two-wire 9v bias power. That's all it does.

Yeah, given there is no XLR on the pedal, an XLRF to TRS cable would be needed.

Ah, OK. I assumed that did more than that. I have a simpler adaptor that does the same thing, basically an XLR to 1/4 adpator with the required voltage divider in it.

It might be fun to play around with this for those of us who have dual pickup setups. Theoretically, you can get all of one pickup's signal below a certain threshold frequency, and all of the other pickup's signal above the threshold frequency.

What gave me pause about purchasing one at the deep discount (offered since well before Christmas) was a demo of Bob Weir messing with it at a live gig. Lots of ringing mic problems with his sound.

Yeah ive read some mixed reviews
on this as well. Some good some bad.
I may buy one just for grins. If it
works and sounds ok i may have
an application for it

There is a friend of mine who bought
one and hosts an open mic with it.
Every guitar plugged into it sounded
great. One fellow had an emerald
that required me to do a mid cut at the
board. after that it sounded great.

Note that it won’t work with most people dual source mic setups because it doesn’t power a condenser mic. It seems designed for Bob’s unique setup (dynamic internal mic, maybe?) which no one has detailed that I know of. Could be useful with non-mic based setups, but the demos I heard with Bob weren’t inspiring, and when I checked it out myself, I didn’t find it useful for my setups.

I think i read somewhere he uses a dpa
4066 lavalier mic. not sure if that requires phantom or not. Do any of these small internal mics use 48 v?
My guitar has a kk to the ring and
baggs m80 to the tip. So im curious
how it might sound as a dual source.
I havn't used the kk since i installed the
Baggs.
perhaps using the highs from the kk
and the lows from the baggs. the kk
always wigs out at volume. i think
the piezo getting its own vibration
of the top caused by the sheer volume magnitude of the band.
Interesting I read that when the BWRD
Is switched off there is a dramatic increase in volume. Telling me the marketing videos are doing a bit of funny business. When they shut it off and there is all this feedback its just a big increase in volume causing it .
Not really the circuitry of the unit . .
The output of this is marked mono.
telling me that its not a balanced out and would require a di box.
For grins i ordered one. should be here
today if fedex is reliable (not too often in my area) Ill let you all know what i think.
after i get a chance to fool with it.
If i get it to sound promising ill try it at
a live gig. feb is booked strong so it wont take me long.
Gotta go find some trs ends and make a new cord. Im thinking maybe pigtronics is discontinuing these. These
are all over the web street price is generally 275.00 . so 99 at SW is a pretty
good deal.

When I watched the demo I recall the mention that it could be used with a single source pickup system. It certainly could be used as a type of EQ where you can lower tor raise the gain below or above a chosen threshold frequency. Perhaps that's how your hosting friend was using it.

Varmonter,

Please let us know how your experiment goes. I can imagine it being very useful with a mag/sbt rig. If it works exactly as claimed, it should take the mag sound out of your high end, at the very least. Hopefully, it will also raise your feedback threshold some.

If he's still using his Yairi signature model, it has an old Alvarez SYS system of some sort with active UST and internal mic system, which would eliminate the need for phantom.

Yikes! Another dupe post. I can imagine that trying to use a smartphone with the Soundscape might not work so well me.
