That system will indeed get you going and should work well for learning DAW recording.

What version of Pro tools are you getting ?

I am not familiar with the Samson mic. But if prototypical of most entry level Chinese LDC's the sound will likely be usable for getting started, according to the SOS review on it, it may be a bit hyped in the high frequencies and probably a bit more self noise than the next tier up (price wise) mics (But you can get started and save up for a better mic in the future) . And the noise and any frequency hype can however be addressed (to a point) with the bundled EQ III and Dynamics III Expander/Gate (which are both excellent EQ plugins BTW). And this brings up an important point. Having a DAW can help to deal with short falls in you system (to a point)
So Yes you will likely be "mixing" sooner than later and exactly why a DAW is advantageous. Good luck and Have fun

Thanks to knowledgeable persons like you on this forum, I now think that I will be mixing, rather than simply recording as I originally said. That's why I bought a 2i2 instead of a stand alone recorder.

On Friday (July 10), I received my Focusrite Scarlett here in Mexico. For those of you who were concerned that Amazon's internal description included the word "solo," I want to confirm that the one that I received is what I thought that I ordered -- a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.
