And one more question...

Are there some piezo pickups that you've tried that work better than others? If someone hadn't put in a pickup yet, what would you recommend?

Yes, it will have a standard SD memory card slot that can be used for code updates as well as WaveMap archiving and retrieval.

If I were to go the tonedexter way I would indeed be using a K and K or Dazzo.

Question, If I were to tap on the body, how would that come through in the signal? Same question regarding string squeaks.

String squeaks do come through, although they may be a little quieter. Responsiveness to body taps totally depends on the type of pickup and where it's mounted. A K&K is fairly responsive to body percussion, an UST not very much.

Default Es2

Would this unit play well with the Taylor ES2?

From everything we've heard about it so far, yes.

Default Availability?

OK, NAMM has come and gone -- has anyone heard whether or not the Tonedexter is actually going to hit the market this year?

Default ToneDexter Update

ToneDexter just resurfaced, and sent out an update email 30 minutes ago. I signed up to reserve one of the units, supposedly shipping in April.

Here's the email text:

ToneDexter news
January 2017 update
Hi Folks,
We've got some exciting news to share—the new and improved ToneDexter is on its way! We've been working very hard to be able to bring you a product with this much goodness at such an affordable price.

ToneDexter is the new preamp for acoustic guitars, mandolins, violins, and more that restores the missing body sound to an instrument’s ordinary piezo pickup.

Play for just a minute with both a mic and your pickup plugged in while ToneDexter trains and learns what to do. Then, put away the mic and smile as you play through a pickup that really does sound just like a mic.

And now, drum roll please...the price will be $399! For the initial run, we will be selling it direct, and are expecting to be shipping in April.

We'll be debuting the new ToneDexter and the NAMM trade show next week in Anaheim, CA. If you're attending, stop by booth 1845 and listen to the difference with our noise-cancelling headphones. One listen and you'll be convinced, if you aren't already!

When considering the cost of all of the other outboard gear, that is compelling.

I'm in!

It's a little nervous-making, buying something I haven't tried from the first production run. But those videos are amazing, and plenty of people who have tried it first-hand seem to agree.

And $400 is WAY easier to swallow than $900.
