This is my first time working with Bocote and this guitar is still not even set-up yet so I have not had any "play" time with the guitar. I suspect it will sound similar to Ziricote.

Ok I got a couple more pictures processed so here they are:

John, as you know I'm normally a fan of your work. But not this one.
Instead I'm a huge fan of this one.
Love the Bocote, and your appointments.
In fact, I've been "dreaming" about a rosette just like the one pictured, and here you've done it! And, that's a sweet touch on the bridge.

Good stuff, and best of luck to you at the show.

Steve

I got to play this beauty at Woodstock. It's a very sweet sounding guitar, sort of like a big 000 (well balanced). The bottom end is not tubby or overpowering even when played with a pick. I think this could make a scary good 12-string, too. I like the direction John is going with his designs (though I'm not much of a fingerstyle player) and his creations are well worth checking out.

That was another killer. So bummed I couldn't play the blackwood guitar. Had to run to the airport, and the guy that was playing it didn't look like he was going to give it up for a while....

Got to play this over the weekend. It's even better than it looks. One of my top 3 guitars at the show.

Thanks to everybody who came a tested out the SJ. I got some really good feedback about the instrument and have generated lot of interest in this new model . Three shows and 3 different SJs (one for each) was a goal I had been working toward this year although this last SJ almost didn’t make it. Right up till the last minute, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to bring it.

Here is one of those full disclosure stories. You see I was having some finish issues with the guitar. While the finish looked nice it wasn’t to my standards. I kept talking to the finish company about some of the issues I was having and while at first I think they thought I was doing something wrong. Long story short, the batch of sealer that I got was suspect (actually bad) but this was not verified by the company until Thursday, the day before I left for the show. Stuff happens, and the company is working really hard to make this up to me and I do appreciate their efforts. The guitar made it through the show and is now back in the shop. In a couple of days I will take it apart, and remove the finish and start over. It is a bummer … a lot of work, but in the end it will have the finish that “I” want on there. I have one guy who is really interested in the guitar, but he wanted a soundport, so maybe I will take this opportunity to add one in. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, I will have this SJ back in action.

Thanks again to everyone who came by to check it out.

A couple of months ago I stripped of the bad finish. I then added the soundport but ended up waiting a little before I went ahead and reapplied the finish. I wanted to do some testing and was waiting for a new spray gun. (I am still missing an adapter for the gun, but that is another story) I am actually using a new product recommended (and used) by some friends of mine. All indications are this will be the stuff I am looking for. Anyway the finish is on, it just needs to be sanded and buffed ... (not my favorite job) maybe it is something I will tackle next week. It is time to get some strings back on this baby. Thanks for asking about it.

John - Your compulsivity level is off the charts! Can only imagine the extra dimension of this guitar with a soudport....Rob
