Bought another mic...AT 2050....

When I say weak I mean in comparison to other mics I have, the output signal was lower, and the volume quieter. I have a pair of the 4041's and they are the hottest mics I have, very strong signal for sure. Maybe I can make up the difference using the better quality pre-amps that I have now.

I've spent some time in a couple studios and was overwhelmed by the $20,000 mics they had there, another studio just used a C414 and he swore by that mic. Not a bad idea if you can find a well equipped studio.

I have a pair of AKG C214's which are pretty darn good mics, but the 4041's are my current favorite.

That's not usually an issue. Mics have varying sensitivities (output for a given sound-level). Just turn it up/down as needed.

Sounds like you have some decent mics - why bother with the 2020/2050s?

I thought the 2050 was good quality mic for the price.... I'm looking for back up mics for when friends come over to jam.....I probably should have bought into to 40 series of mics. I got confused when I saw the 50......oh well if it doesn't work out I can resell it and buy another. I'm going to give it a good work out first though....

Yeah, I got my 2020s to have something for when my son wanted to record his punk rock stuff :-) Hard to beat for the price, but I find they work quite well. Things get better as you move up the line of course (most noticeably - quieter). But if I posted something using the 2020s without calling it out, I don't think anyone would notice at all. If the 2050s give you some patterns you don't have (?) that may be worth having for that, too.

Thank you everybody for your inputs.....I received the 2050 mic today, It came in the original box in mint condition.....It's a beauty. First sound check ?? Plenty hot enough. There must have been something wrong with my old 2020. This is a much nicer mic.

Next up some A/B tests on acoustic guitar.....
