Default New Guitar Ideas?

My wife has advised me to begin daydreaming about a new guitar that I'd like to own. She's currently after another horse to add to the herd and once she finds what she wants, she wants to buy a new guitar for me.

Price range would be about $3,500 to $7,500, ideally coming in about $5,000.

I like mahogany guitars, and I'm a Gibson Jumbo-type nut (AJ-shape), but I have that category covered and covered again, ranging from an Epiphone Texan Inspired By 1964 up to a Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Country Western Reissue. I also have a Dove and a mahogany Guild dreadnought. And a mahogany Martin 000.

I'm thinking it's time for something completely different. Any ideas?

For me the most enticing guitar out there is the new Collings CJ45T. I took a pass on it recently to buy my first Brazilian guitar (see sig). But if I had your budget right now that Collings would be at the top of my list.

No, she means it. But I'm not sure which way to go. I'm very happy with the guitars I have, but far be it from me to refuse to allow her to buy another one for me.

Phew! That is nice! And I've never encountered an unhappy Collings owner. However, it would be joining a whole bunch of similar guitars. I have a thing for that sort of guitar. Very tempting.

But I was really thinking about doing something totally different this time. I'm too predictable when it comes to guitars.

With that offer...

I'd suggest reviewing a lot of guitars and thinking a lot about what you like/prefer, then contacting a reputable guitar builder and contracting a custom guitar maker to build you a one-of-a-kind guitar.

If you choose that direction, I think there are several luthiers that could be recommended. The downside is that you will likely have to wait a year or more for your guitar to be delivered... but it will almost certainly be worth the wait!

Any luthier suggestions? I'm a patient sort. I have plenty of guitars to go on with.

You like Gibson and you've got mahogany well covered .. why not a Gibson maple super jumbo .. the SJ-200.

Depending on what style of guitar you're after and it no particular order:
Gibson Style:
Kevin Kopp
John Walker
Dale Fairbanks
David Flammang
John Greven (Martin or Gibson style)

Martin Style:
Wes Lambe/Ben Maschal (Pre*War Guitars)
Ken Hooper
Caleb Smith
Ritchie Crowder
Jimmy Edmonds
Spencer Strickland
Josh Reese

There are so many more but these are the ones I'm most familiar with. Just wanted to throw them out there FWIW...best of luck!

One of these would come in toward the upper end of your price range - and I'm willing to bet you don't know anyone else who owns one:
