Default Headstock damage… by luthier?

Recently had my guitar worked on. I know it was plek’d and not sure what other adjustments were made but after I got it home, I noticed some semi-circular scars on the sides of the headstock, just about level with the tuning pegs. They’re obviously cosmetic, but I’m 99% certain these weren’t there when I left the guitar with them. Can anyone identify what would have made these marks? Seen anything similar before? I’m pretty peeved as it’s a very new guitar. Just want to have some idea of what could’ve caused this before I go back in and ask them about it.

Do you have a picture. Sounds like it could be the kind of damage that can result from using a power string winder —— carelessly.

Yes, just trying to figure out how to upload photos. But I agree that’s what it sounds like.

Even a manual string winder (used carelessly) will leave those marks. Happened to me with my Eastman E1OM. D'oh.

sounds like they used a tuner peg winder and it was too deep and touched/marred the headstock

Yep, I've seen what you describe. As everyone says, string winder marks.

Always take good pics of your instrument before you give it to anyone.

Seems like a consensus… how would you handle this? Just let it go? I understand stuff happens but I’m pretty irritated about it. On the other hand, it’s not like there’s anything they can do about it at this point… I need further adjustments on the guitar, but this makes me not want to go back there…

Tell the luthier (guitar tech?) about it in any case. He (she) shouldn't continue to be so careless in the future.

Here is a closeup... definitely looks like a winder mark, but it looks more like an actual indentation and not just a blemish on the finish.

I'm pretty sure most guitars get this specific tattoo at some point.

I wouldn't sweat it.
