cool, I may try some mediums soon. The nano PB Elixir lights on there now are actually pretty nice, but still feel like the top isn't moving as much as it could with mediums. I have a set of Retros waiting to go on, they're a pretty safe bet.

I use Monel 13-56 or J17's on my D18GE.

For most of my guitars I play mediums (13's). On my HD-28, Curt Mangan fusion (phosphor bronze) are the best. Nothing else matches the volume, balance, sustain or tone. Mapes are good as well, just not quite as good. DR Sunbeams are a close third place.

Mine are pretty much a rotation of MA550, EJ17, with the occasional NB set thrown in. All medium gauge of course.

I put D'Addario EJ16s on everything, after years of trying different strings. Martin and Gibson strings aren't bad, either.
But if you want something different, try some DR Sunbeam round cores (follow the instructions), or some Dean Markley Blue Steel cryogenically treated strings. The Blue Steels might ease that bass up a little. I don't know with the Sunbeams, but you could try it. |

I'm currently trying out a set of medium Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze 13's on my D-18. So far, so good. Better than good actually. Absolutely a step up in tone compared to the 80/20's and PB's I've tried in the past.

My best friend swears by these strings on his D-18. Based on the sound he gets, and the feel (whenever I get to play it), I can't argue with him. He loves 'em. A clean, precise, resonant sound.

On mahogany guitars I like Monels a lot. But I’m really happy with DR Sunbeam Lights (12-54) on my Southern Jumbo right now. I just ordered 2 more sets yesterday.

String choice is definitely a personal thing. That being said, I prefer 13s on my D18. Tried out some 12s a couple weeks back and noticed the guitar didn't have the punch it usually does. There was also something with the feel. That guitar just handles 13s very well, and doesn't need lighter gauge string to play well.
I use 12s on my 000s. I do believe there is a thing to matching strings to body size... But... It's still a personal preference. As for what type of strings, I like many different types. I use pb most of the time, but also love 80/20 and monel. |

I have tried Elixir 12s Martin Lifespan 2.0 13s and 12s, Martin retris 13s and 12s.
My clear favourite were the retro 13s but I ultimately find them too much for my left hand. Retro 12s are a great compromise.

Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze is all I put on my D-18 now, and I've tried just about everything out there.
