I agree. This guitar thumps to my ears, where his Olsons ring out with each hammer on. I’m excited to say I’ll be watching him in concert next month! |

I too prefer the acoustic tones of James recorded music from the J-50 days. Guess that's why of my 8 acoustics 3 are Gibby's.... and my goto. I also have the Goodall's and a smooth Martin 00-15. Just a preference I know but my '59 CW, with the forward non scalloped bracing, has the most personality of all of them. Go BLUE! |

Thoughts:
There is such a thing as "musical soulmates." And how musical they were (and still are) Man, I love this. |

Did not notice that, but a HUGE "Tapestry" fan here. One of those albums I always come back to. All it takes is to hear one cut on the car radio and the entire album gets played un-interrupted when I arrive home.

31st, October 1970.
I somehow managed to get a front row centre seat at the London Palladium to see Matthews Southern Comfort and James took the second half. he was playing that old Gibson, and looked nervous/shy and gangly, but he sung/played beautifully. i was close enough to stare at his hands and marvelled at how his fretting hand seemed to move so smoothly and gently whilst doing all those things he does so well. James was born one day later than me. (I often wondered that if I'd been born a little later, maybe I might have been a famous singer-songwriter too! .....probably not!

That's a great memory to have. I've always thought of his playing as being "graceful" and combining that with his equally "graceful" voice/singing completes the JT music that so many of us love.

Saw something fairly recently on Tapestry and Adler talks about wanting it to feel like you were in the living room with her and that's how I've always felt!

Not to hijack the thread but here's a cool video of JT playing his acoustics recently. J-50 still sounds pretty good to me.

Both are treasures in the music industry, and well deserved.
I must be the only one who did not hear the guitar playing much at all. Oh well, 72 years of age will do that, I guess! |

it was faint all along, but present. i liked it a lot because of the smooth quiet nature that filled spots here and there.

well, there are guitars in these video, nice looking Taylor in the first, and Olson in the second.
Carole still has it in spades! the very cool thing is reading the comments, just really nice, good feeling comments, no trash talk. these folks just have that deep aura that they carry and sing out, people feel it. and the lyrics, you just don't find this depth much these days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbMI4imWFzY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVk13aLhbZo Last edited by darylcrisp; 10-07-2021 at 02:32 PM. |

My first date was a twin-bill James Taylor/ Carol King concert in Raleigh’s Dorton Arena. He played that J 50.
