What's the worst sounding musical instrument ever invented?
For me, two instruments get equal first place as the worst sounding instruments of all time (gee they sound even worse than the banjo and bagpipes). What are they? The electric bass guitar and the drums.
I can prove they are terrible sounding instruments ..... all ya need is a neighbor who turns up his stereo to mega loudness, and then all you hear throughout your house is **BOOMB BOOMB BOOMB BOOMB BOOMB BOOMB** from the bass and "BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG** from the drums. HELP!!!!!! |

The piano,
By convention it's kept purposely out of tune. And they call that temperament! What about my temperament, huh! And if it goes out of tune, harder to deal with than a 12-string for sure. And there's a reason people go forever between string changes. You're not allowed to touch the strings or even blow on them. Instead. this Rube Goldberg mechanism is put in place. Clank, clank, clank. No strum, no string vibrato. What were they thinking? And people with non-weight relieved Les Pauls and maple jumbo guitars think they're heavy Well let me tell you! Don't tell me to just get a wider strap, I have to play one seated.

I’ll vote for the bagpipes.
My brother has been a piper for years and the only place that he can practice without bothering the neighborhood is an old graveyard up the road. He’s told me that in certain areas of the graveyard, he gets very bad vibes. It’s almost as if the dead are telling him to play somewhere else because they don’t enjoy the pipes either. Rick

Not sure.... but I once heard the guitar described as "the easiest instrument to learn how to play badly."

It's the Vuvuzela. I think it was actually designed with this thread in mind. |

I do remember Phish (at least at one point in time) played the vacuum cleaner.
And I’ll give a nod to the 1% of bagpipers who play it well, in the right time and place, it’s sublime. The other 99% however . . . Dave |
