Some good ideas for a temporary fix already. For something more permanent I've used this stuff. It worked great along with a touch of water thickness acrylic-glue.

I think most advanced beginners, tech-wise, can do it. It does help to have the two nut files for those slots so you can first build it up and then lightly file a new groove (I ordered them at the same time I ordered the powder). I used a small piece of painter's tape on the front and back surface off the nut to keep the powder in place until I dropped the glue in. I "re-grooved" 4 slots on two different nuts and found it pretty easy if you take your time. I'm by no means a pro tech, and I figured if I screwed up worst case was a new nut.
