Default What Are You Working On?

I'm between recording projects and have started a personal project so I'll go first: I was just down at a family reunion in the Smoky Mountains. We had a short family Sunday service and one of the hymns that my brother and I were asked to lead was the Adventist hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness." The poem was written by Thomas O. Chisholm (1866–1960) and the music by William Runyan (1870–1957). The song is in the public domain in the U.S and was popularized by the Moody Bible Institute and the Billy Graham Association. I found the chord structure and passing tones interesting so a couple of days ago I started working out a fingerstyle version. I'm working in concert tuning and have set the song in G to give room for the melody to move within the chords as it moves in the typical hymnal setting. I may well move it up a step to A with a capo to get more chime.

So, what are you up to?

Bob

I'm working on "City of New Orleans." How I've managed to go 45 years of playing guitar without learning this excellent song is beyond me.

Easy enough to play, and in the key of "C" it suits my 3-note vocal range.

A classic and excellent American song.

I've been working on Tony Rice's "Manzanita" for a while.

Little black submarines. There’s a girl on YouTube that does the entire song finger style so I’m trying to deconstruct it.

Mark Knopfler's In the Heartland, in drop D. Not complicated, but for some reason (well, I know the reason) there are a couple parts I've been stuck on. But that's the fun part for me. Stuck, stuck, stuck, then one day it just works and I wonder why it took so long.

That is a lovely, hymn, Bob, one of my favorites.

I’m working on finger style arrangements of Beatles songs. A Day in the Life in standard and Eleanore Rigby in drop D. A bit of a challenge for me, but the tunes are so good 😊

Eagles "Doolin Dalton". Simple and great to do as a solo guitarist and singer.

I'm batting zero right now. Nothing is really inspiring me.

Ain't that the truth? I wonder too.

Hurt. I realize it’s an easy song, relatively speaking, but as a beginner (eternal) it’s attainable and fun

Mark Hanson's fingerstyle rendition of "Morning Has Broken". I've got about half learned and can't hear the melody on the second half based on the sheet music.

As usual, my own stuff........(sigh)
Been "trapped" in DADGAD this summer working on 3 new ones, which are now close to being recorded after a hot "busy/noisy in the neighborhood" too much humidity summer. One more older one that I also want to record with a different guitar. Coming soon (I think):
"Weekday Slumber"
"Down Deep"
"Hope Glimmers"
"Coffee on Sunday Morning"

I am currently working on a song I wrote about a shipwreck in Ireland. After I get that recorded, I will be working on another song I wrote. It is an early song of mine and should go quickly. Once THAT is recorded, I will be revisiting some of my earlier recordings to make them better. I am hoping to release an album, just to say I did it, by the end of the year.

Last year my goal was to write a full set of original music that I felt really good about performing. I've got 16 songs I think are pretty strong and I can generally get through the whole set without any major mistakes, so now my goal is to get them recorded this winter and start working on more new material.
