Heritage offers great service and all inclusive policies that you might find to be expensive. If you do not play professionally or travel with your guitar, you might consider adding a rider to your home owner's or renter's policy.

A few words of warning. If you play at an open mike or donate playing at a charity event, if the venue charges admission, homeowners policies often consider that professional, even if you are not paid. Not sure how if applies if there is no admission charge. FWIW, Heritage covers virtually everything except theft from an unlocked vehicle.

Another vote for Heritage. If you ever play in front of people, your homeowners policy will try to deny your claim saying the guitar was used for professional purposes.

Another Heritage customer here. I signed up mostly for coverage of diminished value if a guitar is damaged, better coverage during shipping, no deductible and to cover the things my homeowners doesn't.

I am a happy Heritage policyholder too. Many think their homeowners' policy will cover their guitars and they may if they’re a $2,000 guitar that’s off the shelf and stolen, but try telling your homeowners’ insurance that your $10,000 guitar just fell off the wall and cracked and it’ll cost $600 to fix it, but it’s now worth $6,000. There’s no way a homeowners policy would cover that. Plus my policy cover shipping and has no deductible.

Yep…another happy Heritage guy here. For $250 a year (with no deductible) I have $10,000 worth of guitar covered for every imaginable occurrence (including shipping during a sale). For 71 cents a day I get peace of mind 24/7/365. Some of the wisest guitar money I spend every year.

They do not cover my piano if it is outside of my home. Since I do not move my piano, this is not a problem.

I am not a professional musician... but I just had too much attitude from my insurance agent over having my instruments on a rider. So I asked some colleagues and found Heritage. They cover all my instruments and for a reasonable price.

Heritage all the way. Great service. I previously used a arider on my H/O insurance. My agent "thought" I was good to go til I pressed him to double check and found out there were many exclusions. This was with one of the larger insurance companies. I wasted a lot of premium money for coverage that would probably not cover an losses I could have had.

Glad I changed.

Another happy Heritage customer here. I have around $40K in coverage for under $300 per year. Seems reasonable.

All of my insurance is with USAA.

I have my guitars insured as part of my Homeowner's Policy. Only stipulation is that if harm comes to them, they must not have been being used in a professional (i.e. paying) situation. Super reasonable fee.

For those AGFers who don’t live in the USA, Andersons is a good company to look at as they cover worldwide. And they specialise in musical instruments. From what I’m reading above, their policy costs are around the same as Heritage’s.

I haven’t made a claim yet so I can’t comment on that side of their business, but they’ve been great to deal with on adding or taking guitars from my cover.
