Hey Scott, why not pick up the phone and talk to Teddy directly. And regarding removing one, the thought has never entered my mind. Six guitars and counting. SunnAudio is not specifically for Dazzos, just tweeked for them. If a 1 meg input impedance will do, if a 1.1 meg sounds better with a Dazzo, that's what the SunnAudio got.

Thanks, Brick!

I LOVE IT when a plan comes together! Glad you're able to set something up with Teddy, and I'm sure you'll like the Dazzo. Either with the SunnAudio preamp or without - as I said, mine sounds terrific through my Bose mixer with ZERO EQ on the overall "Flat" setting, but it also sounded great just plugged into my buddy's small Acoustic acoustic amp...

Feel free to PM me with any questions you have...

About the discussion of removing a Dazzo? Well, Teddy actually did remove the pickup in one of my guitars, feeling that he could get it "just a little better". He said he would use brake fluid cleaner(?), and that gave me pause, no doubt... but what he did was saturate a piece of cloth and hold it on the bridgeplate for a short time to soften up the epoxy.

Turned out to be much less of an issue than I thought it would.

I can say that removing the K&K Mini from one of my guitars was MUCH more difficult and time-consuming than the Dazzo was... turns out that super-glue doesn't come off the bridgeplate easily at all... took some sanding, actually removing a small portion of the bridgeplate to accomplish that. A major pain in the butt, and I thank you, again, Vancebo!

As Br1ck stated, I can not imagine removing the Dazzos from my guitars in my lifetime; it's just such a great sounding pickup that I can't imagine putting something else in there would be warranted.

Scott, fair warning. Teddy is extremely focused on getting the very best tone he can, so budget two or three hours. If he doesn't think it's perfect, he'll take pickups out and try something else. I've seen him solder two different value pickups together to get the right perfect combo. Good enough is not in his DNA.
But it's very well worth it, and he'll use a Sunn Audio pre. Maybe you can get to play his 40s LG2.

Today, I installed my recently-received Dazzo #70 Set in my Larrivee D-40R, and now I'm going to plug in and try it.

Signal Chain: Larrivee D-40R with Dazzo #70 Set > Mogami Gold 12-foot Instrument Cord > Sarno Steel Guitar Black Box > Mogami Gold 25-foot Instrument Cord > LR Baggs Synapse Personal PA All EQ Flat

More to come in a new thread ...

Do you know "the trick" with Dazzos to make them sound more like they're being mic'd? Teddy did this with mine and it really did add a microphonic quality to what was already a stellar sound...

He used small pieces of tape to pin the cord to the top as it ran towards the jack at the butt of the guitar. I think with Vance's guitar, he used painter's tape - which came unstuck fairly quickly...

It really does have a remarkable impact on the tone of the pickup.

Thanks for the suggestion! I may give that "tape-trick" a try after I hear how everything sounds as installed.
