I guess my most recent three would be:

Slingo River Blues - John Fahey (seductively simple)
Clay Pigeons - Blaze Foley
I want to see the Bright Lights - Richard Thompson

In the last couple of weeks I've worked on Michael Johnson's versions of:

"Tennessee Waltz"
and
"Rooty Toot Toot For the Moon".

I've yet to get them down to "perfection', but both are enormously fun to play.

Getting to see on line videos of live performance sure beats the old "lift the needle off the LP" method of learning.

Let's see, there was Jason Isbell's "Speed Trap Town," and then there was JT's "You Can Close Your Eyes."

Been working on 2 fiddle tunes, Whiskey before Breakfast and Cold Frosty Morning. Pretty much have melody and chords, bringing them up to speed, playing melody in different spots/octave, jamming on them on a bit. Ill be working on these for awhile. Also Doobie Bros diddy Larry the Logger 2 Step, same thing bringing it up to speed, learning variations.

One I'm really working on now is Eric Claptons live performance of Ramblin on my mind(Steve Winwood tour). Simple E blues, but a lifetime of licks and nuances. Really digging in on this one, so many things that can inform all my blues playing contained in this tune.

Three great choices. Where are you located in East Texas. I'm in west central Louisiana and, I'm not promising, but it could happen that I would drive over and we could play some music and I could help you with two of these three. I regularly play Mississippi and The Weight. I've played Friend of the Devil but not spent a bunch of time on it.

Living in Nacogdoches right now. I am retiring in June and moving to Killeen in central Texas. Right now I have a 55 hour work week counting commute so there isn't much time for playing. I kind of squeeze in practice a couple of nights a week.
