Simple USB microphone?

I've had fantastic results with a Blue Yeti. Multiple pickup patterns, including cardioid, stereo, omni and figure of eight. Works great for stereo recording acoustic guitars.

Do you know if it is a true dual diaphragm, or is it digital stereo simulation ?

It has three diaphragms. It's not as neutral as more expensive mics, but it colors the sound in a very useable way. Using a tiny amount of the level control/compression in the software program gave me recordings that didn't need much at all by way of eq. A little reverb and careful mic placement gave me the easiest and best sounding recordings I had ever achieved to that point. If your looking for a simple way to get very good recordings I would recommend the blue yeti without hesitation.

Monitoring straight from the mic headphone jack was as good of a monitoring experience as I've every heard. What I heard during tracking was pretty close to the actual recording with very low latency during over dubbing.

I sold the yeti off years ago but I often contemplate buying another one, even though I have plenty of more expensive options at my disposal.

When it's facing forward, the two elements are looking directly at the source for mono or stereo. All three elements appear identical.

This picture is oriented so we can see both front (camera right) and rear (camera left). I watched an involved tear down (video on YouTube).

The capsule housings were soft (rubber-is) not hard plastic to give shock isolation.

Not sure how they are creating the omni.
