Default Ellen Mcllwaine rip

A really great blues musician, died Wednesday at age 75. Never got the fame she deserved but I guess that's often the way with the blues. A great slide guitarist.

Darn, I had not heard that. A GREAT guitarist and an absolute delight to see live. I had the privilege of playing a little with her after a college show she did that I hosted. It was in my Kottke phase. She was jaw-droppingly good and super nice. My early heroes are dropping like flies.

I read of her passing last night. Oddly, I just got a urge to listen to some of her recordings last week and spent a hour or two on a streaming service doing that.

Honestly, I knew her mostly as a face on some LP record covers and then a little about how her career crossed the paths of others in the coffee house/small venue era before Rock became big business with fewer places for the individualist likes of her.

Wish I'd seen her live.

She could have been famous. A real talent.

She was definitely an influence of mine. If you’ve never heard her play “Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die” go listen now. I’ve not seen mention of her before on the forum. Good to know some of you were fans.

What was also so fantastic about her was that she had a voice as well.
