You politely respond with 'congratulations' to every new guitar thread while secretly thinking "What boob would buy one of those?"

I do this! Sometimes I am cutting and splitting a fallen Sitka spruce tree or a decent size Western Red Cedar and I can't help checking out the wood grain to see if the split pieces might have made a good top. Generally, the trees I am cutting up are not old enough to make good guitar tops because the grain is way too coarse. Where I live, I have cut up Sitka spruce trees that are almost 3 feet in diameter but are only 60-75 years old. The grain is way too coarse!

This experience has made me appreciate how old the Sitka spruce trees must be to make good, tight grain tops.

You annoy your family and friends by pointing out the wood species of every wooden thing you run across—furniture, doors, paneling, jewelry boxes, etc—and tell them what a great guitar it would make.

Whenever my wife and I make a major purchase like tires or auto repair, furniture, household and lawn equipment, etc and I just think what guitars I could’ve bought for whatever this stuff costs. We had to spend a total of $1400 repairing the AC two different times on her Ford Edge this summer, and I just kept thinking I could’ve gotten a used D18, J45 or a nice Taylor for close to that.

No picks in my pockets - all in my Princess Mary boxes, which are mostly wherever my guitars are, but ....

If you are either "thinning the herd"
or
looking for that last one "that you really need".

Used to be if it looked good and sounded good that's all I needed to know. Now I need to study 2 pages of specs. before getting started.

You can debate the merits of Norwegian Spruce vs Swedish Spruce tonewoods.

And you actually know the meaning of tonewoods, and have even spoken the the word.

You can tell you're a forum member if....
  • Nano vs. Poly means something to you.
  • You understand why Bra$illian is so highly prized.
  • You realize that Ziricote is not a kind of zebra.
  • You are forever "thinning the herd," but the best number of guitars is "one more."
  • You remember many of our First Forum Family, early members of this forum when we were still the Taylor Guitar Forum, a number of them who responded in this this 2008 thread. https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=122070
