Default De-Solder Tool

I'm looking for a good de-soldering tool. Primarily to use with guitar wiring. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! Will

I like the solder suckers. It's good to have the solder wicking tape too to clean up where necessary. But a sucker gets the job done well.

I have the original version, this must be a knockoff. My favorite style of SS that I have used other than a real desoldering station.

For surface mount or plated through hole PCBs (just about any acoustic guitar product or a Taylor T5), you need a real solder vac, in particular with modern Tin-Silver solder. Since I am only a hobbyist tech, I bought a Chinese knock off of a real solder vac. Mine is labeled ZD-985 and it works well.

Default The best

If you want the best.

I had the pace soldering and de soldering station on my bench for all the years I was working as a electronics tech. I wish I still has the use of one.

In all my years of working on electronics in the Aerospace industry and working on guitar wiring I have NEVER needed anything more than solder wick.

All good suggestions - the wick works beautifully. Remember that sometimes, adding some fresh solder to the joint get the old stuff flowing better. Make sure you are wearing eye protection as solder loves to splash when you pull the wire off the connection.

With enough skill I don't doubt you are right. For fine pitch, plated through, tin-silver, T5 PCBs I was trying to refurbish; I felt I needed the temperature controlled vacuum, though I did get the first one done with wick. But the work was ugly and I had to destroy the components I was removing (cut the pins and pull/heat) along with sacrificial components to get the holes clear enough for the new POTs. I've also worked on MiSi PCBs which required removal of surface mount resistors to change the configuration and the the solder vac did an elegant and clean job.

Wow. Never heard of a soldier sucker. I would’ve just used my soldering iron to heat and remove. I learned something new today.

Kind of difficult with a multi-pin chip. The large solder sucker I showed I feel is better than the smaller metal ones as you have a larger cylinder and it sucks more air from around the surface of the part and through the hole. Old tube equipment sometimes needs a couple of shots with the amount of solder in the joint.

I have used various and this one is the best IMO

The silicone tip doesn’t melt like others. And overall build quality is high. I hope this contributes.
