Joni Mitchell said something along those lines on one of her live albums (Miles of Aisles?) She said music was art you recreate on stage for people to experience, but nobody can ask (Picasso, Van Gogh, or some famous artist) to paint his (famous painting) again for us. l

That's a good quote.
Resonates with the Frank Zappa quote "Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid." I always liked the Joni Mitchell quote above in the thread too too. Music is funny art isn't it. On one hand it's very abstract: nothing physical is created though there are these somewhat diffuse emotions it invokes -- and yet even the quietest parts are touching us on a tiny sensitive piece of skin inside us and the loudest parts vibrates our belly and chest.

One quote i like a lot and that i think of when playing leads is by Claude Debussy who said that:
