Although it's still being sold by folks like Sweetwater and Guitar Center--unlike the higher-powered units of the old line--it's not featured on Bose's "Portable PA Line Array" page. I asked my Sweetwater rep about it, will report back if I hear anything.

My workhorse for small venues is my Bose L1 Compact. I love this system. It’s never let me down for hundreds of gigs, rehearsals, and home practicing. My experience with the L1 is the reason I purchased the Bose Pro16 rather than the Evolve 50. I’m now playing solo shows in larger venues and need “more power”. These are rooms that I would normally play with my band. Due to the Wuhan virus, they are now only booking solo shows.

The Pro16 sounds great, but mine had a high pitched (8.5K) ringing/hiss. I exchanged it for a new one but it had the same issue. I found out later that there were others with the same issue. I was willing to put up with the wobbly tower but I just won’t accept this quality issue. Apparently the Pro8 doesn’t have this issue. My guess is that it isn’t as wobbly because the tower is lighter and not as top heavy as the Pro16.

Long story short, I am waiting for my EV Evolve 50M to be delivered. It has the mixing features of the Evolve 30M plus a few other additional features. It has two effects channels with many reverbs, echoes, choruses and compressions to choose from.

This is a real time screenshot from my frequency analyzer...

I can’t figure out how to post photos on this forum???

I think only Charter members can post photos--the $25 provides some perks like that and helps support the site. Others have linked to photos on external sites. I'll private-message you, I could post it in a pinch.

It is still in their website when you choose portable pa and then L1

Thank you Cuki.

It's hard to backtrack from that link (for me) to see where it sits in the grand scheme of things. So, for example, I came upon a page with many products listed including the Compact but also the L1 M2 and the like, which have indisputably been retired.

Not disputing your point, just saying I am personally unclear.

Don’t get me wrong, the system sounded great! If you only use it in a loud venue setting, the high pitch ring would not be a deal breaker. Using it in my studio/ rehearsal space it will drive you crazy after a few minutes and give you a headache.

I would have put up with the wobble; yes, it does wobble. When you take 16 speakers and put them on top of a plastic flimsy pole with an additional short plastic extender, it’s top heavy. The fact that base is very narrow and much taller than my L1 Compact does not help the wobble situation.

Thanks for posting the image! Hiss is one thing, but a high-pitch ring sounds like a defect. How common that defect is, is the question.

Well, the Pro16 sounded really good. It was good enough that I was willing to exchange it for one working correctly, but the replacement had the same issue. The employee said there were issues with others too. I’m sure Bose would have fixed it but on a higher end unit like this, this shouldn’t happen. I’m just not going to send a new expensive unit to get fixed.

You are right Chris. I did not notice L1MII was still there too.

So all legacy Bose L1 are still on the web page.

Why discontinuying the L1c since it is more lightweight than the pro 8?

Maybe Bose thinks there is no market between the S1 pro and L1 pro 8

I have had my L1c for almost 10 years; it has been a champ. That said, for the difference in price, IF I were replacing it, the L1 Pro8 seems like a lot more PA for a bit more money. The technology has progressed. Seems like moving the L1c to legacy status makes sense.

FWIW my Sweetwater rep, responding to my question, said he is unaware of any plans to halt L1 Compact production at this time. I wouldn't necessarily take that to the bank if anyone were thinking about getting the Compact, but there ya go.

On that FB page noted earlier, not a whole lot of new action re the 16 though I did see this from a commenter on the high-pitched squeal some report, echoing much of what GreatGretsch said: I've been told, since posting this question, that bose is aware and would replace if I were to buy a unit with this issue which has me back to thinking about the 16 over the 32...

USB Poll rate (micro frame) is every 125 microseconds... that is 8 kHz.

Are you saying the USB port could be generating the noise?

Can't be sure. It can have so many explanations.

USB is one.
