I've not needed to do any adjustments on my Halcyon 10 months in, amazingly well balanced oriignal set up, and I even had some slightly heavier strings on it for a while (DR Rare "mediums," which are 12-54), though I'm back to the EJ16s. And it gets a lot of play. However, it needs a sibling.

Default Halcyon thread

My Halcyon is coming up on 8 months, strung now with Elixir HD 13-53 and lives in DADGAD mainly, with occasional standard, and CGCGCD. It is incredibly stable, I haven't adjusted a thing, and it plays and sounds fantastic!

Glad to see this thread thriving. I got on Ed's build list a couple months ago, even payed a visit to his shop and played some great-sounding guitars.

Current plan is an L-00 Lutz/Walnut 13 fret, although there's a small chance I'll switch to an OM when the time comes.

Update: Here are some helpful links for anyone saying Halcy-what?

Podcast with Ed: http://www.fretboardjournal.com/podc...alcyon-guitars

Home page: http://www.halcyonguitars.com

Halcyon Facebook( the most up to date site for watching creations come to life): https://www.facebook.com/pages/Halcy...02308099905683

Halcyon Twitter: https://twitter.com/halcyonguitars

Other random links:

http://www.seattleguitarstore.com/halcyon/

There are a handful of build threads on AGF, and several posts from Bluedog Guitars showing the completed builds. I tried linking them, but it wouldn't work. They are there, and very much worth investigating. I would go to the search function on the forum and simply search for Halcyon.

I hope some folks find this helpful

Drew

Drew,

Thanks for this compilation. Looks like the most all encompassing I've seen but ... most of the random links didn't work for me (the Seattle guitar store and collings web site did, but no the others). Maybe my system, but just giving a heads up.

John

Thanks for the heads up John. It's very weird because those same ones worked for me this morning. I'll troubleshoot later today.

Thanks for putting all of that together Drew. It was really cool to hear Ed in that Fretboard Journal podcast tell about the evolution of his business from Tinker and then through experimentation coming up with the Halcyon business model.

I'm right behind you with my #133 OM.

No worries. Happy to spread the word. Congrats on the leap of faith. What did you order?

Lutz/Walnut(flamed if he can get it)/Ebony OM, 1 3/4" nut, 25" scale, 2 5/16" bridge spacing.

Sounds nearly identical to mine. I need to do some research into the bridge spacing. I told Ed what nut I wanted, but didn't specify about the other end.

The reason I went with 2 5/16" is although I like Fingerstyle on my guitars with 2 1/4", I recently bought a used Loar LO-16 that has 2 5/16" and I'm amazed by how much more room the extra 1/16" makes for me. It is a $40 upcharge for custom spacing, because he can't use his jig and needs to do it by hand. I think that's more than fair on his part and is one of the things that make this whole process awesome to me. I'm really glad that I can have my input on the external specs that make the guitar fit me and my playing style and let Ed have control over the rest of the build that make it a Halcyon.
