I inherited a classical guitar with no label. Can someone identify the builder? Its well crafted. Acquired in southern Italy.

Beautiful guitar.
Good luck. Last edited by Kerbie; 09-04-2019 at 05:06 PM. Reason: Already there, Tico. :-) |

My first impression is that it's a loose Japanese copy of of an mid-20th Century Spanish instrument.

Takamine Hirade or Yairi?

I can see the Tak influence with a little Alvarez thrown in. Somewhere along the line the label got lifted, no identifying marks inside.
Thanks guys |

Firenze, I think it's a fairly good quality Asian-made guitar. It's so shiny I suspect it has a polyester finish of some sort on it, but can't tell for certain.
Could you possibly take a photo of the soundhole from an angle so we can see whether the top is solid wood or laminated? It kind of looks like it could be a plywood top, but when I expanded the photo I really couldn't tell either way. whm |

It's reminding me of the guitars James Sherry imported from Japan to the US under the 'Hernandis' label. Any sharper photos available?

I uploaded a few more pics. See if that helps.

It did. It has a solid wood top, for sure. Can't tell about the back and sides for certain, but the grain pattern on the back seems to match the grain pattern on the back as seen through the soundhole, so I would guess that it's all-solid wood, not laminated.
A match like that is not always an absolute indicator of all-solid wood construction, because good quality laminates get matched like that, as well. But it's clearly a good quality guitar overall. whm |

I just checked the headstock on my Japanese 1970 Aria A-560. Definitely different. So I guess we can rule out an Aria model.

I don't know who the maker was (I'd like to), but am 99% sure it's the one
who made the 'Hernandis' guitars mentioned above, and I'm guessing it has a (solid) cedar top and laminated Indian Rosewood back and sides. |

Carey: The Hernandis guitar looks to be a match. Thankyou very much and thanks guys for all the help.
