Of course. None of us really know the steps involved in, for example, a custom scale length - maybe it’s a practical proposition for an X7/20/30, and not for a Kestrel.

This, too, will pass. I’m sure that as Emerald’s expansion plans settle, and production gets smoother and more predictable, custom options will find their way back into the Builder as standard options.

In the meantime, I’m hard pressed to find any maker who offers anywhere near the same level of variation across such a broad range of instruments at the click of a button.

Rainsong might ultimately have something close (necks, finishes), but they’ve done a mysteriously, and spectacularly, poor job at making their customers aware. The Rainsong website is a dog’s breakfast.

Maybe the infamous ‘Ted’ is actually Rainsong’s 3D Builder?

I wonder - when a short scale X20 (say) is made, is the bridge moved further up the body? I know on a "regular" flattop, the bridge is further forward on a 12 fretter than a 14 fretter. Maybe, due to archtop design, moving the bridge forward isn't an option as it needs to match the arch of the top precisely.
I don't know, just postulating...

On my longer scale X7 Nylon Emerald moved the bridge down.

For my custom semi-baritone X30 with scale length 26.14 inch I specified that the bridge should stay in the standard position.
I feared that moving the bridge to the center of the lower bout would result in an even stronger bass which would overpower the trebles. I am not sure if Alistair agreed with my theory but so it was made and it turned out beautifully!

Such was the level of customization that Emerald used to offer until recently.

Regarding short scale archtops, Gibson Byrdland anyone?

Just received a email from Evan saying they will do a 25” scale on the Kestrel! Did not mention if there is a up charge.

I’m sure there will be an upcharge. Will 25” work for you?

Was 25" your initial request or did you have to compromise? I would have gone for a Gibson standard 24.75".
