Rolling the fingerboard edges makes a dramatic improvement...
I've always had this done to my guitars as part of the set-up. This time I did it myself... simple.
I used a couple of emory boards and took my time and was done in a flash. When I posted my NGD about the D Jr, I noted the rough finish and frets that had not been polished. It turns out that playing the guitar does the final polish of the frets. And, some 0000 steel wool made a dramatic feel to the finish of the guitar. I remember how my Big Baby looked after ten years of playing, tonight I accomplished several years worth of wear to the wood in a matter of seconds and it looks and feels great...

I always roll the fingerboard edges on my guitars. It makes the neck feel smoother.

I use a belt sander. Way quicker.

I've done it on some of my electrics - literally rolled with a screwdriver... makes a big difference. I hate fingerboards with sharp edges on the frets. It's like holding a chainsaw. Rolling the frets makes a big difference to my playing enjoyment.

So you're talking about affecting the board (wood) only, right?
Here's my problem, likely one I don't have time to do anything about. Our closing song in worship tomorrow requires me on electric since our regular electric player is out of town. I pulled out my old and cheap, but fundamentally AWESOME, Peavey Reactor (especially paired with my Hot Rod Deville) to practice up and my frets are sticking out so much I can't believe it. I know it's due to very low humidity. They are like so many razor blades. The bad thing is the piece is nothing but palm-muted barre chords, which makes it worse. I don't suppose there's anything I can do about it before tomorrow morning, eh? Certainly don't think I can re-humidify the neck in less than 24 hours.

Don't you loose fretboard width by doing this ?
No, a slight radius makes a huge improvement... Yes, heavily rolled to the extent of shortening frets can scrub off some of that real estate... But, a slight relief works for me...

Back to topic: I can't follow this thread. What do people mean by "rolling" the fretboard? I have never heard of such a practice.

I'm glad to see this discussion! Several years ago, I also did this on a Partscaster and thought it made an incredible improvement. I'll have to pull out hat neck again and check it out. I wonder if my acoustics might benefit?

Could one of you that have done this fingerboard edge rolling quickly run through the process or provide a good link? The one pic here doesn't give me enough to go on. I have two Gibsons that are described as having the edges rolled at the factory and I really like both of those guitars for their feel and playability and would like to duplicate that if I could on another instrument.
