Default 1979 Taylor 510 - SOLD

I bought this now 40-year-old, 1979 Taylor 510 off of the forum in 2011 from Bob DeVellis (devellis). He and his wife were the original owners, and the guitar had been lovingly cared for all the time they owned it. Also being a product of 1979, I thought it would be pretty awesome to own a guitar that is as old as I am; however, it just spends most of its time sitting in a case in the closet, which doesn’t seem right. So, I have decided to let it go.

This guitar is from the Lemon Grove shop and was built by Bob Taylor, Kurt Listug, and Steve Schemmer, who were the only three workers building Taylors at that time. The Serial No. is 932, and is hand signed by Bob. It also still has the original case that it came with it, which is pre-pink poodle.

Unlike traditional Taylors since the 90’s, it has the smaller 1 11/16 but, not the now standard 1 ¾, and a bit more bass on the low end. The frets are still in great shape, and the neck is pretty much perfect. It’s a great guitar, but I just don’t ever play it.

Asking $1,500.

History and your visual measurement bear out that this is likely a 1 11/16 nut. In the pic it doesn't even look that wide, but I'm guessing it's the angle.

Smile What fitness said...

I do not believe they used 1.75" at the Nut back then.

You got 1 11/16" or special ordered 1 7/8" ...

Best on this cool piece of Taylor History.

Cheers

Paul

Because of an overstock of 12 string neck blanks in some models in the late 80's

Sigh, yes. I tried to write that it is the smaller 1 11/16 nut and not a 1 3/4, but I left off some important words while typing. lol

You are totally correct. I was thinking that I needed to mention that it is not a 1 3/4 nut, then I wasn’t paying attention that I didn’t write correctly what I was thinking. Oh well. Haha

This. Is. Beautiful!!!
I play a ‘98 510ce and would love to add this to the quiver... but alas, I cannot. If it was an ‘80... I might have to do something irrational lol!!!
Best wishes with the sale. Gorgeous Taylor!

I would contact Taylor , they might be interested in this, it looks to be a good specimen for that vintage.

One of my all-time favorites. I had a "late" Lemon Grove 510 that I stupidly sold off. So easy to play and a wonderful balanced sound. Someone should grab this!!!

I thought that was an interesting idea, so I reached out to Taylor. This was their response.

Hi Heath,
Thanks for writing!
There was a time, about 15 years ago, when Bob was buying back some older guitars for our Taylor Museum. He's got the collection he wants now and isn't looking to get any more.
Thanks again for thinking of us.

Regards,
Glen Wolff

Lots of interest, but it’s still looking for a new home. I’ll drop the price to $1,500.
