Default *sold* Bashkin OMC Swiss/Honduran

Hey all,

Just received this in a trade, unfortunately the previous owner wasn't keen on providing the accurate spec measurements so someone with a different playing style or different height/frame will appreciate this guitar a bit more than me.

Essentially I was under the impression it was 4.5 inches deep which is what I'm used to, turns out it is much closer to 4 1/4, which is pretty much the standard OM depth. Also was told it had a 2 5/16 bridge spacing which is a must for me, and it is definitely 2 1/4. May seem crazy but these small differences in measurement have a huge impact on how confident or comfortable I feel for certain pieces, having a classical background where spacing is quite wide.

All this aside, this is a stunning guitar. Seriously. Every Bashkin I've played has this amazingly clear, powerful quality to the tone with huge, resonant trebles that will make you scratch your head when you consider how light and petite the guitar is. Michael is a builder utilizing modern voicing techniques for balance but paying respect to traditional building aspects as well - such as the use of hide glue, Adirondack bracing and light construction. You really get the best of everything, as far as I can tell. This guitar is clean with minimal signs of use, as is the case. Near-mint I would say.

Michael is in my top 3 favorite builders but it appears the quest for one of his guitars continues. When I spoke to him at Woodstock in October he said his wait list wait was now 3-4 years, it may even be closed at the moment. The current base price is well above this guitar's asking price. I am keen to sell but this guitar is already priced below what I believe is a fair price for a guitar of this caliber. If you have a wider spec'd Bashkin please let me know and we can maybe work something out! I always pack and ship with the utmost care and have a few references on this fine forum I am happy to provide if needed!

VIDEO: (recorded with single Neumann KM-184, no effects, eq, or compression)

Here are the specs:

Top: Swiss Spruce
Back: Honduran Rosewood
Neck: Mahogany, medium "C", very, very comfortable.
Rosette: Scorched burl wood, features Michael's "compass" rosette.
Adhesive: Hide Glue
Tuners: Waverly
Nut Width: 1.75"
String Spacing: 2.25"
Body depth at neck block: 3.5"
Body depth at endpin: 4.25"
Scale length: 25.4"
Pickup: No
Pickguard: None
Case: Ameritage

If this doesn’t sell here I will probably send it to Paul at Dream Guitars, since it’s near mint, for right now the asking price is Xxxx paypalled, shipped and insured. Please PM or email [email protected] if you have any questions! Thank you

Default Not crazy at all.

I also have a 2 5/16ths minimum. ( 2 3/8ths is yummy )

I can clearly understand why you would like to pass this beauty along.

Good luck with the sale.

I spoke with Michael a day or two ago about this guitar and he had said it was possible to plug the bridge holes and re-space it but I don’t want that to affect the guitar’s overall originality/value and fear it’d make it easy to the outer strings to potentially slip off. I’m sure someone will be thrilled to own this guitar, it’s a masterpiece in terms of responsiveness and aesthetic.

Interesting: my Placencia does have an end graft depth of 4.5 inches - perhaps the original client requested yours be built with less depth?

I am deeply sympathetic: 2-5/16" makes all the difference for me, too. 1/16" seems like it should be negligible, but it's not!

Good luck with your sale!

And what’s funny is the Bashkin was originally sold from Wildwood Guitar’s where it was specified at 4.5” deep, being my strong preference. How you get that measurement wrong is beyond me but I digress, most folks are more than happy with the above measurements, as they are standard and quite ideal if you have any sort of shoulder or back pain from long sessions.

Still available, some interest but nothing hitting the spot yet. Reasonable offers or potential trades for responsive, wide-nut/spaced guitars welcome. Thanks

If for no other reason, this guitar should sell just for the fantastic video demo that Dustin did! That has to be the most extensive demo of all styles ever done!

Thanks buddy nice to hear from ya...you know I think I might slap some D'Addario EJ's on for another video demo tomorrow because i know Elixir's aren't everyones favorite. The D'Addarios might showcase a different kind of midrange that I noticed isn't as present in this demo video. I have the D'Addario nickel bronze on it now which I like for most guitars but I think the warmth that EJ's have would take this guitar somewhere nice that would agree with more folks than the Elixir's in this video.

In any case, I'm not opposed to trades on this one, not accepting crazy-low offers at this time as I'm not in a tight spot and this guitar is in immaculate condition... PM's welcome with any questions or trade offers. Thanks again for the interest folks!

Here's a new video demo with the guitar strung with light gauge D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ16's. 0.53-0.12. In the previous demo it had light Elixir's on it with a 0.17 and a 0.13 on the trebles. The nature of the recording rig is the same, just a Neumann KM-184 pointed at the body joint going into a Zoom Q8 (xy mic's muted, just the Neumann), no effects, EQ or compression. Please listen with headphones as a phone or laptop speaker won't do this guitar justice one bit.

First tune is in standard, the second is a traditional tune in DADGAD, then the third is in Open D (DADF#AD)

Thanks!

It was through a trade, so we would both be out of money to ship back and forth again. Probably best this one sells. Have some interest and someone looking to buy March 13-14 if it doesn’t sell by then so no worries. It’s a fabulous guitar, the spacing just doesn’t suit my long fingers.
