Talking Larrivee with 'toasted' top?

Well, I know torrefication is popular in certain segments, but this popped up on my eBay watchlist:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Larrivee-LV...sAAOSwvDpbH-Ti

It's the 3rd time listing, offered at $499 previously, now buy it now at $585. Apparently it is going up in worth as the weeks go by

From the description: "First, someone took a wood burning tool to it, it looked ridiculous! Wasn't worth replacing the top so I sanded the top. The top is a little thin! Then I " Toasted" the top, which made it hard. After that I put several coats of lacquer on to protect."

I think this is a GAS-reducer...

Unreal. Obviously, not much thought went into this.

It would b worth a shot if say it was 3-350$ but I think that’s a high price for a guitar that was very nearly ruined and may hav to hav a new top put on it at some point. Then again it could last for years and sound great!

Gordon, when I saw the thread title I thought it meant that Larrivée had jumped on the torrefaction bandwagon and had started making guitars with torrefied tops. Instead, it's truly sad to see the damage done to this instrument.

There's no accounting for taste, I suppose.

After ruining the guitar by toasting it, the only way he can redeem himself is by spreading butter and marmalade on it.

Looks like someone held a lighter under it, and burned the top!

I think he forgot to use suntan lotion. That spruce has some serious melanoma!

Remember, kids, this is why you always want to use sunblock!

The ad copy could probably be translated to "Me & some buddies went camping with this guitar and we were playing it by the campfire, but we got a little bit toasted and the guitar looked like this when we woke up hung over the next day."

I would venture that it's sound is a little on the crisp side. Anything is possible on EBay.

From "literally toast, with issues" to "looks great on stage from 30 feet away," this listing is roll on the floor hilarious. $585 does seem like a stretch, haha.
