NOt using an amp at the moment - just direct into computer Audio interface
It could be the lap top power supply. If its a switching power supply they can be noisy.

Some places have "dirty" electricity and will produce hum when plugged in, no matter what you do. Did you get any noise when you had an amp?

So I turned all the breakers in my house off. Except for my guitar room - still getting the noise..

It has to be something in the computer causing the noise... I guess I need to live with it at this poinyt..

Electric guitars typically have a string ground so that a ground wire goes to the metal bridge of the guitar so that when you are touching the strings you are becoming part of the ground and it blocks out the hum noise.

It's perfectly normal. So just don't let go of the strings

I would guess because when using the battery it doesn't give off the same interference. Your body actually acts like an antenna and picks up the unwanted noise. When you touch the strings it's actually you that is getting grounded. So if there is no noise to pick up then it's quiet.

Makes me want to get rid of all my electrics... Playing with distortion is not a big problem, but clean it sucks unless I anchor myself to the computer case...
