2021 Fairbanks F-35 Stayin’ home
I've been back and forth on this one for a few months. It is without a doubt among the 2 or 3 nicest sounding guitars I've owned—rich, warm, fat and definitive, and the red spruce top is only a couple of years into its sonic service! (did I mention unbelievable headroom for a short scale guitar?). But life is too short to struggle, and I've decided to try to limit myself to guitars with a 1-13/16" or greater width nut...
This one has an Adi top and beautiful quilted mahogany B/S, light fretwear, a little bit of checking around the pick guard, and a tiny chip of the fretboard missing at the low E corner where the fretboard meets the nut (you have to look hard to see both of these flaws). I'm asking $IT’S A KEEPER$ shipped & insured CONUS, (payments via PayPal F+F). Trades: The only types of guitars I will consider are understated traditional Martin or Gibson style builds from top tier small shop builders (e.g. Tippin, McAlister, Greven) with wider string spacing (nut: 1-13/16" or 1-7/8", saddle: 2-5/16" or 2-3/8"). I'm really missing not having a 12 fret 000 in the mix... and I'm willing to add some cash for something really special, but it has to meet the criteria above. Please DM me for more photos/info. Thanks for looking, Ian

Fab guitar...
Fantastic guitar & definitely on my bucket list. Had it not been for the full V profile neck (always a curse to my arthritic thumb) then I might have done something really stupid here. And having just bought a Kopp Trail Boss, with another purchase on the horizon, it might have just tipped my wife into "rage terrain". The Youtube videos of these guitars sound fabulous, woody, crisp, focused, complex & with great expression. Dale seems to have captured that Gibson vintage sound like few others. Best of luck with this one & I'm certain it will play like a dream!

Thanks, Neil! Yep it's all those things tonally, really special. But when your wife gets that particular look in her eye, and starts reaching for the rolling pin, it's time to walk away

I'm getting a flood of really tempting trade offers, some under consideration—from a Froggy to a SCGC, A 000-18NB to a Schoenberg (Sexauer). But for now, this one's still available...

Hi All,
There was an initial swarm of interest, I came close on a couple of trades, but they just weren't quite right. Then, despite the fact that I can see a lot of people viewing the listing, it's been quiet for the last few days. I think there are at least a few thinking (as I would) that the used guitar market is soft, and this listing will tick down in price, given a little time... Let me explain why it won't: as lush and artful as this F-35's sunburst is, and as period accurate as its flame pick guard is, these are all a bit too flashy Elvis P. or Elvis C. for my tastes, and I'd far prefer 18 series Martin style appointments. And as beautifully carved as the neck is, a wider than 1-3/4" nut would make this far easier for me to play. But the last couple of days I've been practicing a very syncopated cross-picked variation of Winder Slide on this Fairbanks, and the voicing of this guitar is so remarkable, so full of joy and playful personality... So yes, I'm nuts enough to put this one up for sale, and yes, I'm happy it hasn't sold yet—and no, I'm not going to take any more of a loss than I'm already threatening to on such a superb instrument. Happy Tuesday, Ian
