Oh man - what a day...
We had heavy rains for the last couple days and were expecting "historic" flooding (again - 2017 the river rose to 32.4 feet and was about 40 feet from my door)
Originally the forecast was for 32 plus feet, then earlier today they brought it back to 30 feet. About 5pm a large dam upriver gave way, and EVERYTHING changed. It wasn't until almost 8 pm that they raised the prediction to 38 feet - that meant about 4-5 feet of water in my studio. It's 2:30 am and I just got back from getting everything I could - still going to lose a lot of stuff, and after already being down for 2 months because of the virus, this is going to be really tough to get back going again. Most of my strength equipment will survive, and I was able to take my rower, stairmaster and upright bike up to the 3rd floor of the building where they will be safe, but it will probably be a long time before the space will be ready again for occupancy. I just bought a Cybex Arc Trainer (used) and I doubt it will survive, along with my recumbent bike that was too heavy to move myself. Not sure how all of this is going to turn out. I'm pretty bummed out as you would expect. To say I've had a bad run for a while is an understatement.

A news feed that I saw said 2 dams failed up there.
God bless and take care. It's bad enough what with this economic shutdown and people on edge, then a natural disaster. Best to ya. Last edited by Acousticado; 05-20-2020 at 12:03 PM. Reason: Removed unnecessary commentary |

Thanks folks - this one is going to be tough to come back from. Going on about 3 hours sleep right now.
I just checked the NOAA site and it says the river is right at the level where it's getting into the studio as I sit here. Pretty helpless feeling.

Hi, so sorry to hear of this. Flood is such a disgusting experience.
You are in my thoughts. Ol' Andy

Sorry to read this Todd. Hoping for the best possible outcome for you.
All I can add: others share your state: a sense of helplessness, of powerlessness, and of impending loss. While I am not facing a flood, I am with you today, in that there are circumstances that have made yesterday and today very challenging for me and my wife and several of our friends. So, in a certain way, I resonate, as I wish you the best. |

Sorry to hear. Stay safe, stuff can be replaced. But it's gotta be exponentially more difficult in the midst of a pandemic where we're all trying to stay safe from THAT but that might be at odds with staying as safe as possible from the flooding. The news this morning said a third dam further upstream appears like it may be in danger of failing as well. I hope you have a safe place to go outside of your river valley...

Praying for you, Todd. My last update from a couple of friends of mine in the same area as you is that they were taking to a canoe.

What a lousy situation... just one question, do you have insurance to cover any of this? if so, then there's a few things you may want to think about. We're going thru a similar situation now, (fire / smoke / water damage) You can PM if interested in any of what we've gone thru. |

Oh man! Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been following the news of the dams and flood as it is happening in my state, although over a hundred miles away from me.
Stay safe.
