I have played and owned several dreads over the years and while I have enjoyed the ones that have come home with me, if the only dread left on the planet was a D-18, I would be more than happy. Truly, wonderful guitars.

As someone who’s had a D18 for several days now, I’m left asking, “Wherr has this guitar been my entire life?”

"I've wanted a D-18 forever."

If not now.... when?

I have owned a couple D-18's, but wound up settling on a D-28.

Can't go wrong with either.

Hopefully in ten years you'll still have your D 18, and you will marvel at how you had the foresight to buy them when they were so cheap. You may well have worn out a $40,000 car by the time you need a fret job. Your golfing friends will have bought four or five drivers promising 25 more yards off the tee.

Over time, guitars are about the most thrifty purchase you can make.

Funny stuff, Brick. I'm pleased that I now own both a D-18 and an HD-28. I feel pretty set on the Martin side of the equation. A J-45 is somewhere in my future, but I'm planning on a genuine '42-'45 Banner. One of these these days.

As usual I agree with Jim and Kori. The D-18 form I have currently is my Collings D1 Traditional. But if I found myself one day with “only” a standard D-18 I’d still be a happy man.

If I was going to get a D-18, this is the one I would get:

No, I don't work for Elderly (I am getting to be elderly though).

D18 is my favourite Martin, I have that space filled abundantly with my Guild D40 Traditional and it could easily be my only guitar. If I couldn't have it then a D18 would substitute nicely too, I'd just have to adjust to the thin wide neck.

Default Time to just get a D-18?

Do it. I finally got a newer used D18 and kept it for a few months. Sold it a hundred dollar loss or so and moved on. Box checked.
