1st gig in over 20yrs
So last Friday I had my fist gig in 20 yr. I sat in on 2 sets with a friend of mine (established local musician) who has been trying to convince me to play with him. He's been a solo act for a few years and has been looking to have someone else join to fill out the sound.
I put my guitars down a few years ago when my son was born 3.5 mos premature and my wife was simultaneously going through cancer treatments. Well after spending the last few week cramming about 25-30 songs... I did it. Pretty good crowd (mostly because my wife told EVERYONE she knows that I would be playing again) but being the Friday of St Paddy's the bar was PACKED! But WOW... I had a blast... He had a blast... I cant quite describe how much I missed playing to and with a crowd. He and I are already lining up more events. Funny how a little pushing from friend can help fill a gap that you did not even realize was a gap.

Somewhat similar experience: Friend I went to college with and worked with at two companies is the leader of the biggest cover band in our region. They get really, really big crowds. I loved guitars but never had any interest to perform. He was pushing me to sit in with his popular band. I finally said "OK fine" Well, he sent out a text blast and email announcement to everyone at our 700-person company and his 8000 facebook followers and his "fan club" announcing that I was a featured guest.....no pressure I/we had a blast. It was so much fun it was indescribable. So many people came out and everyone had a great time. He pushed me to fill a gap I didn't know I had. I formed a band and have been performing regularly ever since.
