NGD: PRS McCarty 594
The FedEx truck dropped this off yesterday. After owning over 150 guitars covering a 50 year period I'm not often amazed. But this thing is WOW! Best way to describe it is PERFECTION.
I've mainly owned Gibson SG's and Les Paul's. The 594 seems to combine the best features of both without the negatives. It also combines the best of old school guitar building with the best of new technology. Quality control is amazing. To be honest I haven't been happy with some of my recent purchases from other manufacturers. This is the only guitar I've bought in recent memory that can go from the box to the stage without doing anything. Normally new guitars go to my tech in Nashville before I can use them. The neck fits my hand perfectly. Sustain is great. Weight is 7 lb 10 oz. Case is heavy but that's probably a good thing. I plugged in to my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV and it sounds great. Great note definition even on the drive channel. I didn't think I'd use the coil taps as I haven't liked the tone in other guitars I've owned. These however sound great. I have a wide array of tones at my disposal. The Phase III tuners get the guitar precisely in tune (I use a strobe tuner) and stay in tune. Even though this guitar is fairly pricey it's worth every penny IMO. That's probably why it took me so long to find one for sale. ETA: This is my second PRS. I bought my first one in 1987. Although it was okay, this one feels like it was made for me. Last edited by KY000; 06-13-2018 at 06:58 AM. Reason: more info |

Nice guitar.
Pound for pound, PRS is the most consistent for quality of materials, workmanship, and fit and finish. They come from the factory with the setup dialed in. Sometimes a small tweak is necessary for personal preference, but you can grab any factory-fresh PRS off the wall at a shop and take it straight to a gig. |

Very nice! What pups are on that one? I think I prefer your version to the ones I've seen with just a wrap-around bridge. As to the coil tap, PRS really seems to do those right... my 'Studio' model is one of the few guitars with this feature I've ever used that did not suffer a big drop in output when going to single-coil mode...almost Tele-like crispness.

Nice catch. I've had one for over a year now. They are very versatile and as everyone notes, quality control and setup from the factory are second to none. I actually spend most of my time on the neck pickup with the coils split for blues - I just love it!
Enjoy yours in good health.

So for anybody interested and that may have not seen it , here is a quick video of Paul explaining the PRS pic up numbering system design philosophy with some info about both the 58/15's and the 85/15 (which is what I have on my 24 CE)

Wow! Congrats on the 594. I too am primarily a Gibson Les Paul and SG player ... sounds like I need to stay away from the 594.

That's a great looking guitars.
I want to audition one of those because of all the great things I've heard. OP if you've ever played a PRS DGT, how do the 2 compare and differ in playability and tone.?
