NRWGD - Blonde Telecaster!
New Road Warrior Guitar Day!
Just traded locally for this tasty Mojo Monster...I had low expectations, but the moment I started playing it, I knew I had to have it. '79 Blonde Tele with a custom carved neck from the '90s (fantastic feel and playability, but not the greatest refinish ), and modern electronics (The Texas Special pups sound incredible!). At some point in the past it had a hard tail bridge that left small holes in the front & back when removed. The most recent owner had those covered with vinyl tape around the newer vintage style bridge. I actually like the appearance of the black tape. Like I said...Mojo!

Thanks!
Thanks all!
This one really plays and sounds great. I love its warm, fat Tele tone with the pick-ups in the middle/both position. I have always been a "neck or both pickup player" and rarely ever use the bridge pickup. I love the warmer, rounder tones.

Posting a sad follow-up as a warning to others...I took this guitar to my tech for him to go over it, and to check on the holes around the bridge, and it turns out it is a complete counterfeit. The only Fender parts are the bridge and pickguard.
I've reached out to the previous owner with strongly worded language that he make good, but I am not holding my breath. He insists he was ripped off when he bought the guitar, and that he did not know he was misrepresenting it. For the amount I am out, I doubt legal action would be worth it. I'm just posting this here to urge people to be careful when buying used electrics, especially Fenders. Since they can easily be pieced together, and since there are so many knock-off parts, it is easy to be taken by a counterfeit.

Oh, what a bummer. I'm sorry to hear that. Sure is pretty though. Best of luck with the previous owner.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. They mean a lot to me, and I appreciate it.
After several days of battling with the previous owner, I've decided to move on. I am clearly not going to get anywhere with him through negotiation, and I've been advised against legal action. The fact that I accepted the guitar after inspecting it, and the doctrine of "buyer beware" would both be against my case. Also, I'd need to bring my tech into the proceedings as a witness, and I just don't want to bother with all that for a few hundred dollars. Time to cut bait. On the plus side, my tech has done his usual magic with a complete set-up and adjustments to the guitar, and it now plays beautifully. Even though my tech assures me that the pickups and electronics are cheap and generic, I do think this guitar sounds pretty darn good. The issue is the misrepresentation, not so much the performance of the instrument itself. I could probably sell it for a few hundred dollars, especially to a perspective buyer who plays it first. Still, I am not sure I feel right about selling a guitar with counterfeit Fender logoing on the peghead, even if I am completely up front about that. I may just keep it as a reminder of how important it is to be careful with such matters, and as an instrument to take to outdoor, summer jams where tomfoolery and much drinking will be involved. On the plus side, I have honored my commitment to myself to acquire a nice Telecaster to be my #1 electric. The beauty below is on its way to me. NEGD to follow. Thank you all again for your kind words! Rock on.
