Single vs Dual Diaphragm

Does the Cardioid position sound with any mic design suffer if its a dual diaphragm verses single diaphragm. Would the single capsule sound better?

Thats a good question..... I don't know what exact physics might relate , but "all things being equal" an
additional diaphragm and circuitry would incur more expense, for the same quality.

By dual-diaphragm you mean two diaphragms back to back, right? Like a Neumann KM86? That's the only one I've used, afaik, and it sounds great in every pattern.

The off-axis low end behavior shown in the graphs is interesting. Food for thought.

The folks at Shure seem to feel that two diaphragms offer sonic benefits. I own their KSM8 Dualdyne mic and IMHO it's a winner. Currently my favorite stage mic.
