Hey John,
I have made a couple of persimmon guitars and they turned out to be quite successful. They were also custom orders which was also sort of a surprise. I don't think the sets I had were quite a pretty as the set you have. I look forward to seeing this beauty when it is all done. |

What did you use as a top for the persimmon.

just plugging along
I'm thinking a European spruce top will work better on this large guitar. I have master grade top here and am laying out a segmented rosette with shadow lines, abalone, and some kind of fancy wood center.

Rosete
First I glue down some tiles of wood to a thin mahogany backing. I want the wood to be complementary to the Wood in the back and sides
There is spalted maple, walnut, some kind of rosewood who knows for sure, and a little amboyna burl. I wanted a hint or red for interest, hence the burl, but it was the Browns and Tans that carry the theme of the rosette. There is a center in there somewhere. After leveling the tiles through the abrasive planer, I cut an inner and outer ring with the diameter that matches the sketch above. The ring of tiles and the shadow lines . Assembly More assembly Completed rosette. I might put a diamond in the top in the left hand gap of the rosette. Reeding the top with the scraper Comparing the colors in the rosette with the colors in the back.

Boy, that IS sweet! Love the look. Thanks for showing the step by step also John. It makes...at least me...feel like I'm right there and part of the process. Fun stuff!
