Default How to amplify vintage guitar with small soundhole without mods??

Hey,

I've just bought a 63 Harmony 12 string (see http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=192636) and I was planning to get a soundhole pickup to use on the odd occasion that I might want to gig with it...

But I measured the soundhole today and it's 90mm, which is even smaller than on my OM, and I have difficulty getting pickups in that!

So what am I left with?

Ideally I don't want to do any mods to the guitar - even though it's not a particularly collectable one I think it'll be nicer to leave it as it is - so I guess I'm stuck with some kind of stick on transducer (like those beer cap ones...).

I have an Ultrasound DI plus so can boost and eq any pup I do use, but what are my options?

You can use a Schertler Dyn-G which is a stick on high quality microphone pickup, pretty unique and very high quality. Read some the of threads in the last couple of week further down. Two of us have gotten them and are experimenting with how they work. They are pricey, I got mine used.

You could try a Mi-Si Acoustic Duo soundhole pickup - they fit anything from 3.05" and up. According to my handy-dandy calculator, that's about 78mm. It fit my 0-16NY, which has a 92mm soundhole, quite comfortably.

Not sure how it will react to 12 strings though - regular acoustic sets can be seriously unbalanced with mag pickups.

The challenge, according to recent threads, might be actually finding one - but it looks like going directly to the manufacturer might be an option.

EDIT: according to Baggs, the M1 will fit soundholes 3.5" and up - that's around 89mm. You'll have the same issues with string balance, however.

K&K makes a mic system that kinda clips on a guitar.

I haven't used one, but I like the looks.
