Default "New Folk Supergroup" . . ?

So says Rolling Stone about Bonny Light Horseman, and who am I to disagree? And yet . . .

Their debut single:

What do you think?

frankmcr thanks for the youtube feed.

I' m no music critic but Bonny Light Horseman by the group of the same name struck a chord with me. Seems it could have fit in the late 60's early 70's. Kind of mellow and kind of sad but in todays market, probably a very select audience.

Now I'm going to have to hear the rest of the album (if there is such a thing) and listen to more of their music. Just didn't like the sound of the sax in the middle...sounded too chalkie??!! And don't ask me to explain that....

Don't care much for the linked version (boo on the production and sax). I like this version a lot better.

Agree entirely -- this version is quite nice! The first was plodding at best, with some very odd intonation issues

I like that better too. But it's not by the "new folk supergroup".

The NFS is actually called Bonny Light Horseman, their debut single (linked in post 1) is an old ballad called "The Bonnie Light Horseman" (a/k/a "Broken-hearted I'll Wander").

Honestly, I did not like the NFS version at all. I thought it was kind of bad, to be honest. I posted because the group is, as noted, being highly praised, and I just wondered how other AGFers felt about that example of their music.

PS - not calling for posts flaming the group. Just opinions (in line with mine or not).

Well, that explains the difference, which is significant.

Not impressed. It seems that there are no two instruments that are tuned alike. The acoustic guitar is flat and the electric guitar is way sharp.

Sometimes a performance is so compelling that I can overlook egregious tuning issues, but not this time.

But hey, they have some great marketing people working for them.
