Default Happy Birthday Neil Diamond...

Singer-songwriter, member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Brooklyn's #1 son turned 79 today...

A flashback to a couple of my favorites:

- and if you grew up in Brooklyn in a certain time/place this was, in the words of another Neil Diamond hit, the story of your life:

A great performer, excellent singer, good guitar player - one of the best, most prolific song writer's of the 20th Century.

I played " Hot August Night" until I literally wore out the grooves ... "wore out the grooves" guess that dates me
And I bet Diamond was particularly defining for ya'll Brooklyn Boys. Or as Grace Slick said "we were very much, creatures of our time"

If this dont get yer blood movin' ya ain't got no soul.....

This is one of my favorites. The intro is in my "doodling" repertoire.

In '70 as an 8 year old I had saved S&H green stamps and bought a nice Panasonic cassette player.

I went out and bought 3 cassette tapes, including Neil Diamond's Shilo (now called Classics - The Early Years)

Those songs are pretty much timeless to me.

First song I (sorta) learned to fingerpick was “And the Grass won’t pay no Mind”, followed by “Play Me”.

Oh, and my first real band usually opened gigs with “Crunchy Granola Suite” as Mr Diamond opened the “Hot August Night” concert album.
Is that one of the all time best “live” albums ever?!?

Happy Birthday
and THANKYOU
