I think it is important that the customer makes the decision, and is fully informed that if a Bridge Doctor is installed, the guitar is playable but it is still broken. Faced with the choice of an expensive "proper" fix, or an affordable work around most people will chose the latter unless the guitar is particularly valuable. I have no issues taking the Luthier hat off and put the guitar tech hat on if that makes the customer happy, especially if the guitar is inexpensive. What I don't want is for an unhappy customer to walk out the door with an unplayable guitar because I am a Luthier not a guitar tech and Luthiers don't use Bridge Doctors. That to me is unacceptable. Others obviously have different views, but that is ok. I live in a small remote rural town and the nearest guitar repair specialist is at least a 3 hr drive away with no guarantee of any different outcome. |
